Location: Kensington, MD
Hours: 30-37 hours per week depending on child's schedule
Compensation: $15 - $18 per hour; Family pays taxes; uses payroll service/direct deposit; 2 weeks paid vacation; All federal holidays off, plus 2 Jewish high holidays; 5 days sick leave; Nanny is paid when family goes on vacation (additional 1-2 weeks off)
Special Needs: The position invoices working with a 2.5 year old boy who has recently been diagnosed on the autism spectrum and has begun occupational therapy, speech therapy, and ABA therapy. He is verbal and affectionate, but has communication and self-regulation and sensory challenges. He requires someone who can be patient but also pushes him to realize his full potential.
Qualifications: Prior experience with ASD children; familiarity with therapies such as ABA and Floortime (or willingness to learn); patience and perseverance/follow-through with a sometimes rigid child. Willingness to come up with activities that are both appealing and push his skill set. Willingness to take child to playgroups and help initiate play, as well as provide continuity with in-home therapies. Specialized degree in a child-focused discipline such as psychology, social work, child and family development.
Must be able to drive and have own vehicle. The family also needs someone who can be somewhat flexible on hours, since the family will start out needing 35-37 hours per week (September-December/January), and will then go back to around 30 hours per week after the child has been assessed for appropriate special needs preschool. Only housekeeping expectations are related to childcare. The family is looking for someone who will meet the child at his ability level and then push him to stretch beyond. This would be a great position for a recent college graduate looking for experience with ASD kids, or someone who has just started graduate training.
